A Critical Thinker must learn to be the master of his/her emotions. Emotions are powerful and when they’re in control, we tend not to make the best decisions as our thinking is being dominated by our lower mind (i.e., the more primitive structures of the brain). The best thinking, which leads to the best decisions come from engaging the higher mind (i.e., the neocortex). Luckily, there are techniques that we can learn in order to better control our emotions. Once we have learned to keep our emotions in check, we can then recognize when the moment is right for optimal decision making.

One such technique is mindfulness meditation. Now, you don’t need much to begin meditation, but there are a number of resources available to help you get started and, once you do, provide you with additional assets on your meditation journey. At Intelligent Speculation, we’ve tried a number of resources for mediation and we’re happy to share them with you.
